FEATI’S HOT DATE: The 16th Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta
In 1946, FEATI Institute of Technology introduced the first aeronautical classes in the Philippine educational system. 65 years later the first school of aeronautics continues onward with one distinct change: that institute is now a university.
FEATI University’s commitment to aeronautics remains as strong as ever as it made its presence felt at the forefront of “must-see” events in the Philippines. One such event was the 16th Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta (PIHABF) at the Clark Special Economic Zone, Angeles City, Pampanga. It was a milestone event for FEATI University as it threw its full support to the organizers’ commemoration of 100 years of airplanes traversing Philippine skies. The event drew a significant number of international and local participants and spectators who were all excited to various exhibits and exhibitions in aeronautics.
The event did not disappoint as everyone present were treated to a sky-is-the-limit exhibitions and demonstrations such as skydiving, light and ultra-light aircraft flight demos and fly-bys, remote-controlled plane and helicopter aerobatics, and kite-flying. For the earth-bound there were aeronautics symposia, while those who dared, went for balloon rides. Every morning the spectacular site of dozens of hot air balloons taking off into clear skies greeted the spectators.
On-the-ground activities from the FEATI University booth featured the workings of a wind tunnel featuring model airplanes and rockets, as well as, flight simulations for the curious attendees who visited the booth.
FEATI University’s participation in this event was made all the sweeter when the organizers recognized FEATI with a citation as the FIRST school of aeronautics in the country. The citation was given during the Aviation Awards fete on the final night of the 2011 PIHABF. Needless to say, a hot time was had by all.
