SIMON L. CHUA, D.T. is the President of the Mathematics Trainers’ Guild (MTG), Philippines and concurrently the Principal of Zamboanga Chong Hua High School. He finished his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics at FEATI University in 1976 with honors. He obtained his Master of Science in Mathematics degree with a thesis rating of meritissimus at the University of Santo Tomas and earned another Master in Science in Computer degree with a thesis rating of summa cum laude at the International University Extension Program, Missouri, U.S.A. He earned his Doctor of Technology (with distinction) at the Technological University of the Philippines.

Dr. Chua was the principal of Paco Citizen’s Academy Foundation for four years; a professional lecturer at the Graduate School of Technological University of the Philippines, Manila; a visiting professor of the Graduate School of Adamson University, Manila; Dean of Academic Standards and Head of Science and Computer Education Philippine Cultural High School, Manila; a Senior Dean of the College Department at the Technology Department of Saint Francis of Assisi College System, Las Piñas; a consultant in Mathematics Education of different schools in the country; a mathematics instructor at the College of Science FEATI University.

Dr. Chua is a co-founder of international mathematics competitions like the World Youth Mathematics Intercity Competition (WYMIC) and Asian Inter-cities Teenager Mathematics Olympiad and a permanent Executive Secretary of WYMIC Board. He has been designated as the in-charge of several international mathematics correspondence competitions. In his desire to equip the classroom with the so-called quality and standard education, he has walked many extra miles when he authored and coordinated –and still does– various mathematics books from Kinder to High School levels.

In recognition of his outstanding contributions, Dr. Chua has received awards from international organizations such as the Paul Erdos Award and Indian’s Aryabhatta Award, making him the first Filipino recipient of such prestigious international awards. The Philippine government through the Department of Education presented to him the Harvest of Excellence for Exemplary and Performance Award. The Anvil Business Club kept track of his exemplary feats in the field of education and his admirable passion for service in the name of excellence which propelled them to confer upon him the Anvil Recognition for Public Service in Education for his outstanding record of educational service and civic leadership.
